Belize
In 2023, our team traveled across Belize to explore its cacao- growing regions and meet the farmers who care for this remarkable crop. Many of the people we visited are direct descendants of the Maya—an ancient civilization that built magnificent cities, developed sophisticated agricultural systems, and cultivated cacao for centuries.
Colombia
In 2024, our team traveled to the northern region of Colombia, into the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, to visit the Indigenous Arhuaco cacao farmers we have been connected with for many years. We were deeply honored by their friendship and by the presence of their spiritual leader, Mamo Camillo, who graciously welcomed us into conversations about the meaning of cacao within Arhuaco culture and community life.
